HP ALM 11.5 service does not start from services.msc

I installed HP ALM 11.5 on my laptop. I set the HP ALM service startup type to Manual in the Services console so that I can start the service and use HP ALM whenever I want. Everything was woking fine till yesterday. Today I am unable to start the HP ALM service from Services.msc . I am seeing the following in the event control manager of windows. Can somebody kindly shed some light on this issue and help me on how to resolve it.

The HP Application Lifecycle Management service terminated with service-specific error Incorrect function..

My server has java upgrade and changed the default path, so that ALM service is not able to identify the right path. After changing the right path of java , it is working fine.

Forgot to tell I am running HP ALM in a virtual machine. The application I am using to run the virtual machine is VMPlayer. The OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

Did you install QTP in the QC server?

If you installed QTP please uninstall it and try again

did yoou make any changes that are causing this error to ALM?

Installing any ALM patch?

Changed primary log-on credentials?

Thank you for your reply

Yes I installed QTP 11 with the Java Addin. A few months back I had a similar problem on my office dekstop computer where installing QTP 11 with Java addin creates issues with IBM sametime meeting. The Same time meeting never launches and complains that Java could not be loaded. I took the help of HP tech support to resolve the issue at that time. The solution was to rename a couple of system variables under System Properties/Advanced/Environment variables. The system variables are _JAVA_OPTIONS and JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS. I renamed them to _JAVA_OPTIONS_X and JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS_X .

I did the samething now and got ALM service running again. Can you please shed some light on what these environment variables are that QTP is adding and what are the consequences of renaming them. I know that QTP will not recognize a Java application if you rename these environment variables. Please let me know what is the best thing to do to have both QTP and QC running on the same machine
